1463 Slit Sleeve Tunic

Excellent designers are rarely conventional thinkers. Here Porter not only offers an arresting visual (the slashes on medieval sleeves were meant to evoke swordfighting damage), but does it with fascinating construction. The sleeves and front and black yoke are worked in one long reverse st st strip, rather like some shrugs (but your head goes through the middle of it). Then you sew the underarm seams, and pick up in the round around the body and knit down in st st; therefore finishing is minimal. Neck strip shown is worked separately and sewn on.
