010 Octavia's Garlands Lace Shawl
Steinford: "Octavia's Garlands is a unique and customizable pattern for a lace shawl. You don't have to be a harpist to make or wear it - any musician or music lover would enjoy it! Seven song alternatives are included, but if you don't see your favorite tune in the list, there's also a blank staff that lets you chart your own!
The pattern is a 20-page PDF which includes the following:
Instructions and Color Photos
Leaf Lace Chart and Right and Left Facing Harp charts.
Music Charts for Blank Staff and A and B parts for Scales, Twinkle, Twinkle, Brahms’ Lullaby, Danny Boy, Flower Duet from Lakmé, Ode to Joy, and Road to Lisdoonvarna.
You don't need to print all 20 pages for your project. Each shawl only needs 5 pages. Lace patterns are provided in charted form only.
The shawl is worked in two halves which are grafted in the center. Music charts include approximately the first 4 bars of each tune. (Please note that some minor musical liberties may have been taken for ease of knitting.) The tune on the shawl shown is the Flower Duet from Lakmé.
As may be predicted, Steinford is a harpist. She and two friends play as a group called "Strings Attached".
Coordinating arm warmers are available here.
