7122-2 Sweater

This pattern is from a magnificent vintage Hayfield book (#7122) framed around a yarn called St. Moritz, which was a blend of Bluefaced Leicester wool and mohair. The designs are therefore, inevitably, all timeless and exceptionally beautiful. This design, the second from the book, is unusual in that it has high-capped set-in sleeves for a tailored fit. The stitch motifs-- the lace diamonds and the little wave cables-- work as beautifully together as the two elements of earth and sea. Note that much ease was recommended; today's tastes may want the garment closer to the body. Try Sirdar's Balmoral DK instead of the original yarns suggested, but be sure to get gauge.
