Keys and Coins Andean-Style Hat with Optional Ear Flaps
These hats take a cue from Andean “chullo” styles and motifs. The originals use many yarns and tiny stitches; these bow to tradition but use modern techniques, gauge and materials.
Choose a slowly self-striping yarn and a contrasting solid color. Make ear flaps for warmth, or do not. Shorten for a beanie. Make your own style.
Knit brim-up, in the round, with small optional I-cord nib at top. Optional flaps knit in an authentically-inspired method, sewn on after knitting. Knit fewer key motifs, without earflaps or nib, for a beanie style.
