Among the Birches
Leja: "Worked on the bias, this ruana-type vest is the ideal cover-up for cooler days. Against a Garter Stitch background in colours of the earth, rows of wrapped stitches call forth a grove of the ghost-like birch. The birch is one of the deciduous trees that can survive in harsh northern climates. After birches have shed their leaves in the fall, they can look like ghost trees, ethereal and other-worldly. This over-sized wrap is shaped like a ruana, but can also be worn as a vest. The changing colours of the piece combine the colours of birch trees in fall with a background of earth and stone."
