Robyn Gallimore

for Red Bird Knits

Square Dance

Gallimore departs from the traditional sock construct and has you make the cuff sideways, alternating the modular squares with the garter ridges, then joining it in a circle. After that you pick up the edge stitches and knit a more traditional sock from the ankle down, albeit with a garter stitch short-row heel (comfortable!). A fascinating use of a variegated yarn.

This design is also part of Gallimore's Modular Socks booklet: five of her most popular modular designs for $18.
