1864 Cardigan (birth to 7 years)

As far as we know, this style-- with the sideways round cabled yoke and more traditional vertical body-- was pioneered by Pringle of Scotland in their ready-to-wear a few seasons ago. It caught on like mad, and now you can variations of it everywhere. But we have never seen a cleaner, more straightforward, more pleasing version than this. In effect you knit raglan-sleeved garment pieces partway up, then sew the separate long yoke strip to them. Selvage stitches are included because Sirdar is a charitable company and its designers are merciful. The result is just a stunning piece for younger children. Pattern includes slipped stitches and short rows (wrapped). A variation on this design in a capelet style is Sirdar 1386.
