Ruth Maddock

Slouchy Beanie

The colour and effect possibilities here are marvellous. Maddock has taken an elementary slip stitch pattern (so that you are only ever working with one colour per round, never two) and carefully worked out the crown decreases to be harmonious and beautiful in themselves. Choosing two colours from close families, as here, with the background being slightly variegated, gives a beautiful mosaic effect. At the same time, you get an utterly contemporary slouchy style. Play with combinations of fibre (alpaca! silk!) and you'll make many.
