Natalie Servant

Chrysler Crown Shawl

"(This piece is) inspired by the Art Deco design of the crown of the Chrysler Building in NYC," says the designer. "(It) starts in the middle with a provisional cast on; it could also be started with a garter border and knit from one end to the other or it could be knit from the ends in and grafted to reverse the motif direction. Apart from the usual types of lace increases and decreases, the pattern contains some 'new' stitches, which are explained in depth. The pattern has 5 pages of advice, pictures, layout, and instructions and 2 pages of charts." This is Servant's first published pattern. It is simply one of the most impressive debuts we have ever seen-- the pattern's writing and presentation no less than the remarkably beautiful design. Beads optional.

ERRATA: The “special” single decrease stitches have the lifted stitch on the wrong side.

The “special” ssk should be worked as follows: slip 1 knitwise, lift the bar between the stitches on the needles and place it on the right needle, knit the two stitches on the right needle together.

The “special” k2tog should be worked as follows: lift the bar between the stitches on the needles and place it on the left needle, then k2tog.
