"These soft alpaca mitts are a simple and elegant project," says Blanchard. "They are colorful yet quick to knit and would make a wonderful last-minute handknit gift. They are knit from the cuff to the tip and the beginning of the row is at the outside of the hands so any color pattern jogs are less noticeable." The thumb is a simple peasant version (i.e., basically just a slit in the fabric, with no base-of-thumb gusset). This is a delicious introduction to working with alpaca in the round (since it is much less elastic then wool, it's almost a special discipline), and the resulting mitts are wonderfully soft and lovely.
