Norah Gaughan

for Reynolds   1999

82014-7 Old World Paisley

An unusual example of Gaughan's great talent, from a rare vintage Reynolds booklet. Here she plays like a designer in a yarn sandbox with many gorgeous techniques-- but the use of colour is paramount. Given the detail of the surface appearance (with all its intarsia, fair isle, and embroidery), the designer wisely keeps the silhouette free of fuss. The front and back necks and shoulders are shaped, but otherwise all lines are straight-- drop shoulders, flat sleeve tops. The overall impression is one of ethnic exuberance and a confident freedom. This is the 7th design (back cover) from Reynolds booklet 82014.
