FW2003-10 Raglan Sweater
For our official 4,000th pattern, we wanted an indisputable classic: a design that would look good forever. We also wanted it to be easy to make for the most junior knitter; quick to make would be just adding a perfume to the rose. We found all those qualities in this stunningly simple piece, taken from a 2003 designer collection by JCA Crafts. There's waist shaping and extravagant full-fashioning of the raglan slopes, but otherwise it's as plain as plain can be (back and front are identical). The original yarn was 100% cashmere and used tripled to get the gauge below. But with shaping this elegant, you can use just about anything good: hand- or kettle-dyes, maybe even a slub or fashion yarn. Make it over and over and over.
