Cottage Craft Woollens

c.1998

Guernsey
WEB EXCLUSIVE

Here is a splendid Canadian homage to a British knitwear tradition. Maine, Cornwall, and New Brunswick have the same kinds of rugged coastlines and folk who depend on the sea. This sweater protects the Maritime people from the elements while honouring the classic elements of the style: the knit/purl patterning, spare use of cables, and (the appearance at least of) saddle shoulders. It is in fact a modified drop shoulder with purl ridges giving the impression of a saddle-- easier to assemble, and impressively good-looking. Cottage Craft have sold these sweaters as finished goods for years, but this is the first time the patterns are becoming easily available.
