9297 Sweater and Edge to Edge cardigan (ages 2 - 11)
These are extremely pretty and very easy pieces for a young girl. In both the sweater and cardigan versions, the backs are plain reverse st st; the only ornamentation is the cabling-- and it's the simplest kind of cabling, using an RT (see definition on the data page), so you don't even have to worry about using a cable needle. An "Edge to Edge" cardigan is what the British call a cardigan that has no closure: no buttons, snaps, or zips, just the plain opening, rendered very elegant in this case by ridges of garter stitch edging the V-neck and fronts. The armholes, sleeve caps, and shoulders are shaped, but not the back neck. Either a very plain smooth yarn or one with a degree of interest (tweedy flecks or a heathered one like the Alpaca Tweed DK) would show off the design perfectly.
