UKHKA 154 Cushion Covers, Glasses Case, and Mobile (Cell) Cover
Along with UKHKA 153, we think that this is one of the best patterns around for introducing kids to knitting. None of the pieces takes very long to make, and the colour changes on the cushions (whether you make the strip or square version-- the latter is worked one square at a time, with a solid-colour back if you want) keep young minds focused. And then you have such good-looking, practical pieces when done!
From the publisher: "The main aim of the UK Hand Knitting Association (UKHKA) is to raise the profile of hand knitting. It does this through 'Learn to Knit' classes held throughout the UK, 'Relax and Knit' stands at all the principal UK Knitting and Sewing shows, and by the introduction of National Competitions showcased at the Knitting and Sewing shows." To this end, no specific yarn is recommended-- just choose the appropriate weight of something you like and make sure you meet the gauge requirements.
