UKHKA 162 Cardigans (2 preemie - age 2)
This pattern is a lovely one, in that you can choose whichever of the three lace patterns to adorn the body you prefer. Otherwise, the armholes are indented once for a better fit than a pure drop shoulder, and you knit the body up to the armholes all in one piece-- it's fantastic not having to sew front and back lace pieces together. Because the British are thorough in their traditions, instructions are given for both boy and girl buttonhole placement. A sweet little design that will beg to have the wee one photographed in it.
Note that the DK yarn called for in this pattern is a light DK, or sportweight.
From the publisher: "The main aim of the UK Hand Knitting Association (UKHKA) is to raise the profile of hand knitting. It does this through 'Learn to Knit' classes held throughout the UK, 'Relax and Knit' stands at all the principal UK Knitting and Sewing shows, and by the introduction of National Competitions showcased at the Knitting and Sewing shows." To this end, no specific yarn is recommended-- just choose the appropriate weight of something you like and make sure you meet the gauge requirements.
