Cathy Payson,
Kristin Nicholas

for Classic Elite Yarns   1992

383 Plaits, Knots and Crosses
WEB EXCLUSIVE

Magnificent pieces, strong and timeless. Both are drop-shouldered, and all straight lines except for the front neck. Payson's tunic on the left manages to evoke medieval tilework; originally made in Cambridge (now gone), it would be gorgeous today in Renaissance or Summer Set (see first gauge below). The Nicholas Aran on the right (so handsome; my uncle Bob wants me to make him this design) can still be happily knitted in soft, supple Montera. Errata for the left garment's chart has been incorporated into this pattern, current at March 2009.
