Deborah Newton

for Classic Elite Yarns   1990

309 Curious Colorwork Top
WEB EXCLUSIVE

Really a university course in fair isle colourwork. Newton is a merciful professor, though-- there are no great long carries of more than four stitches (very manageable without weaving the unused colours in the back in a DK weight yarn). And there are a quite a few of what we call 'sanity rows' (i.e., rows of one colour only; we coined this term during an Alice Starmore knitting phase). The shaping overall is excellent, with the back neck, armholes, and sleeve caps all being well tailored. Newport Light is gone, but Provence-- another mercerized cotton-- should substitute extremely well.
