This slouchy hat, reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance, has a clever and unusual construction using short rows for shaping.
Pattern includes a 4 page photo tutorial on all aspects of knitting short rows including wrap & turn, and picking up the wraps for short rows worked on both Knit and Purl rows.
Because the knit stitches and rows are oriented differently than in traditional hat construction it is the row gauge that determines the brim measurement, and not the stitches per inch gauge as in traditional hat patterns. The row gauge for the samples is 23 rows to 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch. Because of the adjustable nature of this pattern slight variances in gauge can be accommodated.
