Celtic Knotwork Baby Blanket
When I learned that I was going to become an aunt, I designed this blanket, drawing on knotwork patterns found in medieval Celtic illuminated manuscripts as the inspiration for the cables. My niece’s mom is a knitter, so it was a two-fold gift: pattern for the mom, blanket for the baby.
This pattern is a combination of mindless and intricate. There’s a ton of stocking stitch, which is great for times when you just need to keep your hands busy; and there are lots of involved cables, for times when you are able to concentrate harder. The result is a blanket which appears simultaneously simple and complex, and beautiful all over.
