First Felfs for Families
First Felfs—like all Felfs—are simple to fit to any foot in the world. Felfs is my invented word for this family of felted footwear inspired by an old European tradition. I was first captivated by the way folded squares could clothe a foot when I saw Hildur Halldørsson’s “Building Blocks” in the 1999 book, Socks Socks Socks. Knit flat in garter stitch so that anyone can make them, Felfs are mysteriously compelling and can be easily fit to any foot in the world.
This pattern is taken from The Art of Felfs: Felted Footwear for Families and is designed to bring more Felf happiness into the world, as well as to help fund the cancer research of Dr. David Krag, whose research team is well on the way to replacing chemotherapy with a procedure that is gentle and more effective. As of October, 2014, knitters have bought enough books to raise over $50,000 for Dr. Krag’s lab. Your entire purchase price, minus the Paypal charges, goes directly to Dr. Krag’s lab from both Cat Bordhi and Patternfish.
