M5087 Curved Hem Cabled Slipover
Here's a dynamite little piece that's quick and easy to make, with the sculptural touches that characterize Burgin's work. In this case, it's a hem that curves upward in the middle front of the garment; this is accomplished through wrapped short rows. There's no armhole shaping, so the shoulders are properly (acutely) sloped down to avoid any flange-ing. The result is a snug, warm vest that offers a vast deal of visual interest. The back is all st st topped with seed st (UK: moss stitch) at the yoke, to match the front; only the front sports and cabling. This is a great layering piece over plain separates. The 100% merino wool yarn is a chainette construction, which helps minimize any pilling-- valuable in a yarn of this weight.
