Sarah Hatton

Austin (ages 3 - 12)

As the Rowan studio sets out to explore their new Pure Wool Worsted quality, you can see their designers taking British traditions and setting them in this new American-style frame. Here is Hatton's Introduction to Fair Isle in this setting. It's a lovely basic sweater ideal for boys or girls, with a splendid patterned yoke. Note that Hatton is kind, and does not call for a 'carry' (interval between colour changes) of more than 3 stitches here; if you're new to Fair Isle, that will help you to regulate your tension. Sleeves are set in. Choose a sweater or tunic length (tunic is longer). 50 colours in the range provide vast possibilities. And if you have a yard and a half or 150 cm of a contrasting oddment (sure you do!), use that as the centre of the circular motifs and see how you can really make the look pop. This design is from the Rowan book Pure Wool Worsted Kids.
