8860 Shawl in Senses Lace
This is a triangular/curved-edge shawl (fichu!) that belongs in the movie Tom Jones, or in Hogarth engravings-- how fitting that it does in fact come from England. When you have cravings to look like an 18th-century woman, this is your piece. You begin working the body of the piece from the hypoteneuse (the long straight side) down to the 'point'. You then pick up along the two shorter sides and work the lacy edging; then pick up along the long straight side and work a brief garter edging there, too. The result is extremely pretty, though it's not at all hard to make.
