Bergere de France

125.83 Trapeze Jacket

Bergère de France has made a specialty out of trapeze jackets, but this one is perhaps especially chic and fun to knit. You make it in piece with the lower back and fronts separate, all A-line in shape. (The lower left front is worked "as given for lower right front, reversing the shaping", just so you know.) Front borders are picked up and worked out from the fronts, but the collar and cuffs are knit separately and sewn on. Both sleeves and yoke shaping are worked all at once. The pattern notes that "it is essential to keep careful count of the number of rows indicated to complete the yoke successfully", but if you do this, you'll be rewarded with a uniquely beautiful, shapely, remarkably textured garment.
