Marie Wallin

Wallin does nothing outlandish here. Every individual stitch element is a familiar one. But it takes a master of design to combine these simple Aran tropes into something so unified and compelling-- just as small pieces of glass or tile unite to form an incredible mosaic. This is a piece that crowns the body just as a diadem crowns a head, but it's not 'feminine' at all: just regal. You work the stitching entirely from charts, not text. Front and back are identical, with the funnel neck built up from the body; sleeves are lightly set in. A row of picked-up, then cast-off, stitching finishes the neck edge. Please note that the pattern is A4 size and landscape-oriented; North Americans should pick "shrink to fit" in their printer options if accustomed to letter size printing.
