A118-5 Squigglez

Squigglez is a unisex sock that has traveling in mind and features a central knit thru the back loop column that travels to and fro down the leg picking up its neighboring columns along the way until all the columns are traveling. It can be worked one of three ways: Original, featuring off-set traveling columns and an unusual gusset; Alternative, featuring synchronized traveling columns and an unusual gusset; and finally K.I.S.S. (Keeping It Simple Squigglez) which has synchronized traveling columns and a traditional heel flap and gusset. The unusual gusset allows you to carry the pattern all the way around the gusset and requires no picking up of stitches instead you’ll work just one giant heel turn to return back to your original stitch count. Although the pattern is not written for two colors it looks wonderful that way - just work your purl stitches in one color and your knit thru the back loop stitches in another (be sure to adjust your gauge accordingly).

This pattern is both written and charted and includes four sections - an introduction plus one section for each version of the sock. Read the introduction first to get an overview of the design and the differences between them. And do not let the size of the documents scare you - this is quite possibly the wordiest pattern ever because of the way the traveling unfolds and requires separate charts for different sizes, and except for the occasional increase or decrease your only stitches are knits, purls, and right or left crosses.

Most importantly Squigglez is a sock with a purpose - one that hopefully bring some smiles to those in need. Fifty cents from each sale will go to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital's area of most need. Together we can bring some hope and much needed care to those kids and their caregivers - and maybe, just maybe some much needed healing.

(This entire pattern made us smile. It's just so much fun. Be sure to review the pattern before you print. It is 52 pages for the introduction plus three different methods, so do decide which variation you want first. It's a terrific design - well worth the ink--ed.)
