1880 Hat, Bonnet, Mittens & Bootees (birth - age 2)
Here are some very simple basics, using small amounts of yarn, and all knit flat and seamed where necessary. The hat, mitts, and bootees shown at right are almost as plain as you can get. The set shown on the left is pretty simple too: the edgings are picked up and knit out on the bonnet and mitts, and worked at the end of the bootees. The mittens are thumbless. You can change 4 ply styles of yarn for ages (tweeds, variegateds, neps, marls, whatever) with this pattern and never get bored at how the pieces turn out.
