46 Color Me Pretty Skirt (2-10 years)
My little girl loves skirts and dresses of all kinds, and is very attracted to bright fun colors. She likes mixing and matching the different color yarns I have laying about everywhere, and has been requesting rainbow colored clothes made from the color combinations she chooses.
Designing colorful garments is always delightful for me. The ‘Color Me Pretty’ skirt is just one of the bright and fun garments that I have designed and made for her recently.
I have used black as a background to showcase a variety of bright colors, which in turn creates a gradient rainbow effect in the Fair Isle colorwork design. The Fair Isle design lends itself to many possibilities of various color combinations; my version is just one of them. You can work with as little as one contrast color or with as many as you would like.
The skirt is knit entirely in the round from top down. It begins with a provisional cast on, which is used to allow for a knitted on waistband. There are two distinct sections in the skirt construction: A-line top portion and the straight bottom part that features a colorwork design.
Since children significantly vary in height, the skirt length is easily customized.
