P663 2-ply Matinee Coats (birth - age 2;1 knit, 1 crochet)
Sometimes something wonderful comes over you. You want to add to family heirlooms by making something exquisite for the baby in a laceweight 2-ply yarn. Such patterns are not thick on the ground, but this is a beauty, with both a crocheted coat (foreground) and a knitted coat (background). The knit one is worked from the hem up in one piece to the armholes, where the sleeves are joined in; you finish the yoke in one piece. The crochet one is worked from the top down (English terminology). Either way, magnificent. Crochet tension: 4 pattern repeats to 10 cm/4" over pattern on 3 mm hook. Knitted tension: 36 sts over pattern to 4"/10cm on 2.75mm/US2 needles; 32 sts to 4"/10cm in st st.
