007 Rúnar

Rúnar is a fully-lined beanie hat in three sizes - extra warm and thick, and decorated with eye-catching runes in stranded colourwork.

The Younger Futhark runes spell out, in Old Norse, ‘Þórr vígi, Þórr síði’ (May Thor bless, May Thor protect). The message can be personalized. The complete charted runic alphabet is included in the pattern.

The inspiration for this hat came from the Orkney Islands in Scotland, where I grew up. Orkney has some of the most fascinating Viking Age runic inscriptions in Britain - in particular the amazing graffiti in Maes Howe, a Stone Age tomb which was broken into and vandalised by the Vikings!

(Our 10-year-old Avengers-fan son needs one of those, pronto-- Ed.)
