To our publishers and customers

[June 16, 2019] The site has now stopped selling patterns.

[April 30, 2019] After almost 11 successful years in business, Patternfish will cease selling patterns on 16 June, 2019.

We will continue to make our customers' stashes accessible to them to the end of 30 June, 2019, in order to provide them with time to save their purchased patterns to their personal hard drives.

Thank you all so very much for your enthusiastic support over the years.  It has meant an enormous amount to us.

Kate Atherley

for Wise Hilda Knits

2012-01 Miss Otis Regrets

For those times when you regret not buying another skein... an engaging but quick-to-knit lace kerchief, using a surprisingly small quantity of yarn. Ideal for leftovers or those small skeins at the bottom of your stash. Suitable for knitters with some lace knitting experience.

I love a good lace edging pattern. They are interesting and fun to knit, with a pattern of increasing and binding off to create fancy edges. The ever-changing stitch count keeps you on your toes, but isn’t so difficult that you go crazy.

This pattern is created from the “Grand Eyelet Edging” in Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, and it’s rather unexpected, looking almost like crochet. I’ve tweaked the plain section of the pattern to create a sideways-knit triangle.

I worked the orange and black sample with – believe it or not – a single skein of Koigu. Yes, that’s right – a decent kerchief with only 170yds of yarn! – which makes it both affordable and very, very quick to knit. It’s my favourite spring scarf with a light jacket, providing a bit of color and coverage against a breeze.

Pattern includes detailed advice on yarn selection and substitution, and both written and charted instructions are provided.

(You get Kate-the-knitting-teacher's "detailed advice" in abundance in Miss Otis Regrets, including invaluable advisory notes on how to deal with knitting through multiple yarn overs--ed.)
