WEB EXCLUSIVE
Penny Straker: “Mom’s house in S’conset, looked out over moors to the Atlantic, sat near the edge of the moor on Low Beach Road. The changing and muted colors of the moors were our ‘garden’.
“The Red-winged Blackbirds’ early spring return to those moors inspired this simple but powerful color block design. Of course, the main color was black and the triangular blocks red and a mid-toned ochre, the moor grass color in early spring.
“This design is also a well-tailored set-in sleeve pullover. The crew neck is nicely curved and not too high! So with Red Wing you also have a basic sport weight pullover, which can be knit in a multitude of yarns from sumptuous alpaca to wool and cottons, to all the wonderful natural fibers available today.”
