Tapestry crochet differs from ordinary crochet in its texture, tension, and how colors are manipulated. With this project, one yarn is carried while another is single crocheted, switching the yarns back and forth and occasionally adding beads to create three Jack O’Lantern faces.
For those who like to crochet loosely – this Halloween basket is the project for you – since it’s tapestry crocheted with a large hook and loose stitches. First, the flat spiral base is crocheted, then when the diameter of the base is no longer increased, the edges of the spiral gradually move upwards to form the sides. The basket shrinks and felts like magic in a washing machine. The beauty of felted tapestry crochet is that the motif is visible on both sides of the fabric. Gauge is 14.5 stitches and 14.5 rows to 4 inches/10 cm on a size K-10 1/2 US (6.50 mm) hook. Right-handed version is available here.
