Alfke once sweetly asked what we would like to see in an Unpattern. "Top down set-in sleeve cardigans and pullovers," we said, guffawing. This pattern appeared not long after. We can't do much better than quote from the description from her Top Down Raglan Pullover:
This pattern is as essential to a knitter's pattern stash as Barbara Walker is to a knitting library. It goes far beyond others in its clarity, scholarship, and irresistible humour.
As it says, you can use any yarn, at any gauge, in any size. So here are cardigans for all the grown-ups in your family in one comprehensive set of instructions that teaches you how to build your own garments exactly as you'd prefer them. A profligate use of diagrams, full instructions for crew as well as deep (and shallower!) V-necks, picking up around curves and along slants-- there's more here than you knew you could possibly use. Special attention is given to edgings, 'girlie' (waist) shaping, and purl darts. Don't be afraid of the pattern's length. It's an easy and amusing read on its own. The whole? Enormously detailed, exciting and fun, empowering and invaluable. See the entire Unpatterns collection here.
