As Gallimore points out, only one colour is used per round (with the other colour's stitches being slipped). She knits her 6 ply yarns at a dense gauge, so as to maximize sock life, and provides a fun checkerboard heel for extra amusement.
We have never been to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, don't own these socks, and are jealous of both.
