This is not technically a 'greatcoat' style, but it is a Great Coat. First, it provides a lot of knitting-- most of it very repetitive and soothing, except for a wee flurry with a cable needle every 20th row or so. Second, the lines are straight throughout; it's a drop shoulder, but the sleeve caps and shoulders are shaped a little. Third, the scale of the design elements is perfect. You want long emphatic lines and a big grand cable motif on a piece this dramatic, and you get them. The generous front ribbing forms a natural shawl collar when folded back. Minimal fuss, just great looks.
