"Knit a 2 or 3 striped hat without the ugly ladders and jogs that striped knitting creates," says Ellis. "Simple enough for even a beginner!" And yet, the performance of it is one of the things that separates the amateur from the seriously well-versed practitioner of the art. Buy this pattern and practice at length.
