She takes a magnificent Aran-weight yarn (79% alpaca, 30% silk!), and by combining three colours of it in an easy seed stitch pattern, multiplies the warmth and comfy factor enormously. And the look is wonderful-- identical on both sides of the fabric, tweedy and elegant. These are not pieces for balmy weather. They can take on serious cold. The mittens are flip- or pop-tops, worked mostly in the round; the scarf is worked flat; the hat is worked circularly.
