"These mittens knit up in a trice-- if a trice amounts to about 10 hours for the pair. And since they take a little less than 100g of worsted weight (10 ply) yarn you'll have no problem finding some of that in your stash. We've used a variety of yarns including a strong Canadian worsted weight pure wool (13 wpi), a beautifully soft merino and a lovely fluffy mohair (which normally knits to a chunky/bulky gauge but works wonderfully knit tightly) but many other yarns would work equally well." -- Shirl the Purl
You can, of course, omit the beads if you prefer.
