Here Ellis pulls off a near miracle. She has designed a tunic or dress of rare simplicity and grace, that could cost hundreds of dollars in a posh baby store if you could actually get it ready-made. But it's easy and fascinating to work, too. You make the Baltic braid at the bodice base first (she includes a URL for a video tutorial), then knit down in the round for the skirt; then reverse the process, and go back to pick up from the braid and work up for the bodice. It's one piece construction with a twist, and since you cast the shoulders off together, there's no sewing. Brilliant.
