"These socks, with their optional double-knit soles, will be a delight to wear as regular socks or slippers," avers Neatby. "Begun with a provisional cast-on, the sock can later be extended upwards (if your yarn supply permits) or finished from the cast on edge with bells and fringe, for a frivolous flourish. Double-knitting consists of two layers of fabric worked simultaneously, hence the extra warmth. This technique can be applied to any other two-color-per-round sock patterns." She notes that the single fabric socks are intermediate level, and the double-knits are for experienced knitters. As is so often the case with Neatby, these are intensely spirited while also being intensely practical.
