"A fun-to-knit, intarsia hat with a soft facing to give a comfortable fit and cushion the beads," says Neatby. "This intarsia has sculpted edges to each colour section created by lines of decreases." Without seeing it, you'd assume that a Carnival Cap could never be less than garish. But Neatby's design is gentle and rhythmic and refined, and in all ways an ideal piece on which to practice intarsia-- or learn beading, since there are only 27 of them; and in bead terms, this is nothing. Of course the pattern is written with her usual thorough attention to detail and many-pronged ways of presenting information (diagrams, charts, and tips).
