Sirdar
c.2009
1708 Jacket (birth to 6 years)
WEB EXCLUSIVE
Delightful, and just about as intriguing as you wish to make it. The clever in-house designers at Sirdar (there are 20 of them!) here offer a traditional kind of bolero shape, with gently-curved armholes and raised modest caps on the sleeves, all done in st st. You make the back, fronts, sleeves, and garter shawl collar separately and sew together. The witchery and fun comes from the fringed border, which is also worked separately; it looks difficult but is really quite straightforward, essentially just a matter of casting on and off with a twist. Very unusual, and very pretty.
