Italian design, as we've noted before, tends to combine simplicity of line with a few quite distinctive elements. Here there are three: the square, fold-down bib front, the emphatic full-fashioning at the armholes and sleeve caps, and the wonderful cuff treatment. The elegant seed stitch is the only variation from st st throughout. The cuffs are closed by a buttonhole and a few inches of a crocheted chain. None of the separate elements themselves are difficult, but together they form a European conspiracy of great distinction.
