Dressmakers and tailors back to Vionnet are all familiar with the impact of a fabric cut on the bias. And that's the effect you get here: the fabric swirls around the body and hugs it on a slant, stressing curves even without the benefit of its waist shaping (we imagine little or negative ease would be indicated). The tiny little raglan sleeves continue the theme, though the lace pattern is made smaller on them. Full fashioning is used throughout; seaming is thereby made much easier. Original yarn was a 4-ply-weight pure silk, 109 yards/100 metres to 25g, used doubled for this design (first gauge indicates the weight when doubled, as used; second gauge indicates single usage over st st as recommended by manufacturer). Smashingly sexy.
