"The Magic Buttonhole is a straightforward sewn buttonhole for a double layer Stocking Stitch (Stockinette) band, involving no cutting of the main yarn," says Neatby. "With only one length of sewn stitching per buttonhole, it is neat, perfect on both sides and resembles the work of a bespoke tailor. This method both creates the buttonhole and secures both sides of the fabric together in one operation without loose stitches at any point. This buttonhole runs parallel to the rows of knitting and is ideally suited to bands picked up around a garment edge. The Fiesta Vest shown on the cover has Magic Buttonholes sewn using a hand-painted yarn." Diagrammed, with an additional 15 (!) colour photographs to show you every step of the process, this is one of those techniques that turns fear-of-finishing into I-love-finishing-- because the results are so far beyond the norm. Beautifully presented and very clear.
