53 Big Flap Hat

Egan: "Even a beginner can finish this hat in a couple of evenings. The hat is sized by varying the gauge." Which is an extremely convenient and smart way to do things. And when the yarn is this big, just a little change in needle size (see gauges below) is enough to make a big difference. These are made from the brim up, with markers placed to decide the eventual location of the earflaps (which are picked up after the fact and knit down). Fun, easy, not big yarn consumers, and fit for all but the biggest heads.
