Chris de Longpre

for Knitting at KNoon   2004

Sweet Pea
WEB EXCLUSIVE

"Knit these 'little things' for an expectant mother and she'll appreciate their practicality almost as much as their luxury," says de Longpre. "Cap and sacque are embellished with simple bands of reverse stockinet." All babies should be blessed with these. The sacque has that fantastic French neckline that simply expands at the shoulders when you pull it on, and then closes nicely up again with tot inside, free of poky buttons or anything similar. Sleeves are picked up from armhole and knit down to minimize sewing. If there is one ruling design that babies worldwide have worn for thousands of years, this must be it-- and an especially fine example, too. A doll-sized version of this pattern is available here.
