"Elegant all over cable pattern on stocking stitch background," notes Frankel. This hat, in a terrific interpretation of the slouch/beret style, is neither masculine nor feminine nor fancy nor plain. It just looks good. The cablework is interesting but not frothy, the crown decreases are nicely planned and look good as a pattern in and of themselves, and because the cablework is so rhythmic and smooth, this piece is an excellent showcase for an outstanding yarn. Slubby tweeds work well, as shown here, or you could go with mohair or alpaca (getting more slouch into the bargain), or angora or a single sheep breed or... well, anything!
